THE BLUE CARPET IS GONE, oh sorry, didn't mean to shout

Everyone was tired of hearing me complain about the upstairs carpet.  Every time I walked up there, UGH, I HATE THIS CARPET.  It needs to go.  I thought about wood flooring, but my crew said carpet is better, warmer, and best of all, insulates the noise for downstairs.
Finally, I went to Shepherds Carpets in Spanish Fork, Utah.  I walked in and this nice salesman says "hi, how can I help you?"  I need carpet.  "you came to the right place!"  Yes, I did.  He was awesome, helped us find the right carpet, and then scheduled the installation.  That easy.  Not too long later, here comes our installer.
He did an AMAZING job.  Check out these pics and you can decide for yourself. (names were removed for privacy.)
Pulling off the old carpet - I forgot mom painted EVERYTHING blue

Demolition day!

They don't look like this anymore!

It's not just better carpet, but way better installation.  LOVELOVELOVE

Upstairs landing; such a difference!!

If you haven't seen our new carpet, call, write, stop by if you see our cars in the driveway, send a carrier pigeon...  We love to show it off!!!

Wendover Historic Airfield

This post is different, because it is not about us, Mt. Pleasant or even Sanpete County.  It's about history.  World War II history.  Wendover, Utah?   Yes,  Wendover.  A co-worker told me about the historic Wendover Airport, which was a vital training post during WWII.  The Enola Gay squadron trained there.  At one point there was approximately 20,000 soldiers training and living in Wendover, Utah.  In the mid 70's the Air Force closed their operations in Wendover and the land and buildings were given to Tooele County.  The Airport was losing money, the buildings were falling in disrepair and there was one man who stood between Wendover and the bulldozer.  He went to work.  The airport became a profit center, and the officers club was restored.  That is the building the museum, gift shop and the new mess hall are located.  I gave my husband tour tickets for his birthday; he looked at the tickets and said Wendover?  Right until we got there he was Mr. Doubter.  Five hours later, he was a believer, I was a believer and I wanted to tell the world to go to Wendover!  For $45 we got rides in a 1940s Army Jeep, a fun open air shuttle kinda like at the zoo and of course, an air conditioned van.  We toured the fire house, the vault room (right up my alley as a security specialist), barracks, nurses quarters, hospital, original mess hall, and then we had a yummy sandwich buffet lunch which was included in the tour price.  Then we went to the southern end and saw more cool stuff, including a bunker, a testing area, and the Enola Gay hangar.  When we returned to the museum the staff (VOLUNTEERs, all volunteers ) handed out popsicles, cause, yea, it was hot.
There were about 30 people, including a Pearl Harbor survivor who served on the USS Pennsylvania.  Only one of five still living.  What a privilege to meet him.  There were other veterans as well, from Korea, Vietnam, and the War on Terrorism.  Anyway, go, see the sights, meet the people, enjoy.  You're welcome.  http://www.wendoverairbase.com/
This is the Officer's Club which has been refurbished; they have a mess hall in here, a small museum, a GIFT SHOP!  a class room, ballroom, big room for parties
The old fire house has a TV for the firefighters in the breakroom...  anyone remember these?

I seriously want one; tried to borrow this, but the tour guides kept watching me like they knew i coveted stuff!

Coolest posters ever

Old nursing quarters are now rooms for artists to express themselves.  Can't explain it, you just have to see it...

He graciously let me take a picture with him!  and yes, my face is still bruised from my Lake Powell escapade.  Looks super good now!

WW2 jeep, a volunteer, the salt flats and hubby.

THE hangar.  It is being refurbished.  If you go and give them money it will be easier for them to maintain this history!

I want to go back,  I am sure I missed something.  Probably something at the gift shop.  I will definitely be there for the air show.  Wanna know when it is?  Go to the web site and check it out!  See you there!

A Gift from Us to YOU!

We have decided to lower our rental prices for the month of April!  Come on down to see the only Vacation Rental in Sanpete County with a game room and a two car garage!  Who does that?  We do!  We want you to fall in love with our home and our Valley, so take advantage of us celebrating spring, celebrating being home over a year from my last military deployment, and celebrating owning such a beautiful piece of history.  Contact us for details!

If you love rust as much as we do, then you will love our décor. This little baby was dug up from our field.  An old piece of stove with hearts.  It's a sign we picked the right name.

A friendly reminder of how the house looked back when it was brand new.

What to do,.. what to do...

Let's talk.  What do you think is the number one question we get asked about having a vacation rental in Sanpete County?  Do you give up?  WHAT IS THERE TO DO!!!???? Well, let me tell you, there is LOTS to do.  TONS.

Partial list:  Rock climbing, fishing, snow mobiling, four wheeling, hiking, shopping, eating, touring old homes (or just stay in one), museum hopping, buying art, seeing old pioneer stuff, watching cows and sheep and horses, buying fresh turkey from the turkey plant store, seeing one of the two Carnegie Libraries left in the United States, did I say rock climbing, snow kiting (watch some you tube videos its amazing), golf, kayaking, paddle boating, pottery buying,  playing pool in our awesome game room,  maybe take in a play at Snow College. Star gazing cause let's be honest, there isn't much of a night life here, although there are three screens in Ephraim and in the summer in Mt. Pleasant, A DRIVE IN.  With burgers and stuff.  Mt. Pleasant recently opened an indoor pool with a slide and a zero entry area for toddlers.  There is a splash pad for summer and the entire south side of the building opens up so when the weather warms up you can easily be outside!

Let's talk ancestors.  Got some?  We have some here in Sanpete County.  We have cemeteries, we have geneology libraries, we have a Daughters of the Utah Pioneer museum with old pictures and information.  Fairview Museum has old stuff too.  And a replica of the mammoth found up Fairview Canyon. (You have to trust, seriously its THERE).

Festivals?  Oh yea.  We have those too.  Scandinavian festival, Chocolate Festival, Lamb Days, Independence Day Celebrations, Snowmobile contests, 10k at 10,000' (If you are a runner you HAVE to add this to your lists of events), Pioneer Day Celebrations, the Rat Fink Reunion in Manti, the demolition derbys in the summer, Sanpete County Fair, the Manti LDS Church Pageant, Moroni Mud Bogs...

OR

Hang out in our gorgeous home and read a book.  We have LOTS. and by lots I mean I should open my own library. One of the first questions my husband asked me after we got married was if I ever heard of a library.  Why yes I have, thank you.  It is in these 20 boxes right here.

Our televisions are all equipped with wifi so you can stream Netflix, Amazon Prime or whatever you binge watch.

Need a staycation?  Want to save money on gas?  Stay a weekend.  We will give you a really good deal for a longer stay.    You won't ever want to leave.

OH!!  I almost forgot.  Donuts.  Who likes donuts raise your hand (both of mine are HIGH up in the air).  We have in Mt. Pleasant the BEST donuts in Utah, or farther.  Terrells Country Bakery is only four blocks away.  You may have seen their frozen rolls in your Utah grocery store.   If you ask me nice I'll leave a dozen for you.  FREE.  and I'll still leave your fresh baked pumpkin bread too.

Lavender. And so can you. OR Throwback To Warmer Weather

Many Many years ago, Mom went to the Young Living Lavender Farm in Mona, Utah. Not going to lie, that place gets better every year!  I digress.  She bought several lavender plants which are now HUGE and have taken over the back of the house.  They are so fragrant and beautiful, we love them.  Come on down in the spring and summer; free lavender with purchase.  Your house will thank you.

Roses!  The only roses I have ever been able to keep alive are ones I didn't plant.

This what happens when you open a Brecks catalog and order pretty stuff.  Don't ask what they are, I just think they lovely.  and they got so huge!

No, I'm not sick of winter!  Just reminding myself of how colorful we get in the spring and summer.  I'll be ordering more from the Breck's catalog; the only method to my madness is to choke out the weeds with flowers.  What's your favorite?  I am only planting perennials, cause they don't die.
